Festive Winery Harvest Events to Celebrate Grape Crush Season

The rumble of tractors pulling gondolas can be heard throughout California wine country this month. It’s like Christmas, but Santa’s sleigh is a lot bigger—and filled with beautiful clusters of grapes. Harvest is here, and there are more ways than ever for food and wine lovers to experience the festivities in Sonoma County. Here are a few of our favorite wine country events during harvest featuring lunch or dinner meals, hosted in September and October. The best winery harvest events in Sonoma are usually reserved for wine club members, and are noted as such, so make sure to join their mailing lists.

Jordan Winery Harvest Lunches

Alexander Valley

A harvest tradition, Jordan offers lunch alfresco to its loyalty members through October 15. Each lunch celebrates the harvest season and bounty of the Jordan Winery Garden while offering pairings of Jordan wines, including the Jordan Cuvée by Champagne AR Lenoble as well as two vintages of chardonnay and two vintages of cabernet sauvignon . Seatings happen Wednesday through Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for private tables on the Chateau Terrace. Menus change daily based on what’s fresh from the garden and feature four courses including a salad and vegetables, seafood and an entrée course, as well as dessert. $160, preferred pricing available for Silver, Gold and Platinum members of Jordan Estate Rewards.

Buena Vista Annual Harvest Brunch

Sonoma Valley

The historic winery celebrates harvest with this lively Sunday brunch, happening September 25 at 10:30 a.m. Held in the Fountain Courtyard, it includes a tour of the winery to learn about the process of crushing and hand sorting grapes before enjoying a sumptuous autumnal meal and live music.

Harvest Dinner with Field Day at Bella Vineyards and Wine Caves

Dry Creek Valley

Field Day chef Amy Brown will prepare a harvest-inspired meal to pair with Bella wines under the stars at this lively dinner, accompanied by Brazilian musician Monica De Silva. Chef Brown cooks from a retrofitted school bus that’s been turned into a kitchen. October 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. $185; reservations required.

Home for Harvest at Three Sticks Wines

Sonoma Valley

Happening on October 14 and 15, this is a fall release event that also serves as a marketplace of local products and people, with live music, sips and bites to enjoy along the way. Among the producers in attendance will be Single Thread Farm Stand (Friday only), with bouquets, produce boxes and pantry items; Rustic Bakery with sourdough flatbread; Lala’s Jam Bar with a proprietary Three Sticks jam; The Caviar Co. with bumps of caviar and caviar kits to take home; and Volo Chocolates with its Mexican-inspired lollipop-style chocolates. Friday is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., $45 and for club members only; Saturday’s events take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for $75.

Fall Winemaker Dinner at Comstock Wines

Dry Creek Valley

The red carpet will be rolled out for this dinner in Comstock’s Merlot Vineyard with winemaker Chris Russi and general manager Kelly Comstock, where four courses will be paired with estate wines. October 22 at 6 p.m. $175; reservations required.

Harvest Open House at Live Oak Farm

Petaluma

Looking for a change of pace from wineries? Spend an afternoon at this popular certified-organic farm – once a thriving chicken farm, now a vegetable, fruit, herb and flower farm – with an open-daily farm stand and CSA membership boxes. On October 2 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. No fee; RSVP and food/beverage to share requested.
